Coming from a generation that witnessed Beirut and other Arab cities fall into Surreal chaos, the surrealist notion that conflict arises from excessive rational thought made sense to me. Art glorifying or condemning events was futile. A realistic execution for an altered reality was much-needed; Art as a means of survival; A sedative to block out the outside noise.

Houdini’s art of escaping from restraints interests me. I found his use of tactics that secretly employed illusions and disappearances for survival interesting. Like realistic painting the operation of escape always includes the danger of failure and the thrill of it all. These directly influenced my use of trompe l’oeil .

In an interview about my Art, I talked about my fascination with steganography, the ancient art of hiding information in something else; an image within an image. The use of pigments led me to explore glazes, enabling me to work in layers, sometimes painting images within each other to achieve illusionary effects.

These Painted images appear to be placed within a visceral capsule that allows the audience to meditate inside. The capsule has a mix of qualities, which fascinates as well as confuses, creating a sub-language, another image within an image.
